Summary of Case:	"Mohamad Al-Kassem was wrongly convicted in 2013 of criminal negligence causing death for striking and killing a man with his SUV outside an apartment in Ontario, Canada on Dec. 16, 2009. The jury acquitted Al-Kassem of dangerous driving causing death. Al-Kassem was sentenced to 2 years less one day in prison. His sentence was stayed pending the outcome of his appeal. On May 13, 2015 the Ontario Corut of Appeal quashed Al-Kassem's conviction on the basis the jury's verdict he was guilty of criminal negligence causing death was “necessarily inconsistent” with the jury’s verdict acquitting him of dangerous driving causing death for the same conduct, and that involved the same essential elements. The appeals court ordered Al-Kassem's acquittal."
