Summary of Case: |
"Earl Berryman and Michael Brunch were codefendants wrongly convicted in 1985 of a March 1983 rape in Essex County, New Jersey. Both men were erroneously identified by the victim 1-1/2 years after she was raped. Neither men matched the physical characteristics she described to the police after she was assaulted. The vacating of Earl Berryman's conviction by U.S. District Court Judge Dickinson Debevoise in 1995 and his subsequent release from prison resulted from a five-year investigation of Berryman's case by Centurion Ministries. Michael Brunch died in prison before he could have his conviction reversed." |
