Summary of Case:

"Zafran Bibi was wrongly convicted "for the crime of having extramarital relations," and sentenced to death by stoning. Zafran Bibi accused her brother-in-law of raping her, although it couldn't be proven because under the law in the part of Pakistan in which she lives a rape has to be witnessed by four men before it is prosecutable. Her conviction was based on her accusation of being raped and the baby she had as a result of her "relations" with the brother-in-law, since her husband couldn't be the father since he was in prison. Bibi's conviction was overturned by a Pakistani Appeals Ct. and she was released on June 6, 2002 after being jailed for more than a year."
