"Keith Jacobson was wrongly convicted in April 1988 in federal court in Nebraska of one count of knowingly receiving through the mails sexually explicit material depicting a minor. Jacobson, a resident of Newman Grove, Nebraska, presented the defense he was entrapped. After his conviction by a jury Jacobson was sentenced to a 3 year prison term suspended to 2 years probation, and 250 hours of community service. After his conviction was affirmed by the Eight Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Supreme Court accepted review. On April 6, 1992, by a 5-4 majority, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed Jacobson's conviction because he was entrapped and the prosecution failed "as a matter of law failed to establish that petitioner was independently predisposed to commit the crime for which he was arrested.""
