Summary of Case:	"Alhaji Bello Lafiaji was wrongly convicted on June 21, 2010 of conspiracy and conversion of 164,300 euros (about N37 million) seized from a drug suspect in November 2005. At the time LaFiaji was the chairman of Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). He was sentenced to four years in prison. His personal assistant, Usman Amali, was also convicted and sentenced to three years in prison. The men were investigated by Nigeria's Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). Lafiaji appealed, and on November 22, 2011 a three-judge panel of Nigeria's Court of Appeal in Lagos overturned Lafiaji's conviction, ruling there is not sufficient evidence to support his conviction. Justice Mohammed Danjuma issued the opinion that the testimony of witnesses was contradictory and Lafiaji was convicted based on suspicion he was guilty, and no actual evidence. Lafiaji was to be freed after serving 17 months of his sentence."
