Summary of Case:

"James Sauvé was a co-defendant of Richard Trudel. Both men were convicted in 1996 of the 1990 murder of a man and his pregnant wife in Cumberland, Ontario. Their jury trial that lasted 16 months was the longest in Canadian history. In 2004 the men's convictions were overturned on appeal and a retrial ordered. After the prosecution stalled in retrying the men for 3 years the charges were stayed on January 12, 2007 and the men were released after more than 16 years of wrongful imprisonment. They were also co-defendants of Richard Mallory and Robert Stewart who were convicted in 2000 after their trial was severed from the trial of Sauvé and Trudel. Mallory and Stewart were released in March 2007. All four men were arrested in December 1990."
