"Wrongful conviction of murdering daughter Azaria quashed in September 1988. She claimed, and it was never disproven, that her daughter was killed by a dingo. Subject of the major motion picture, "A Cry In the Dark, " that featured Meryl Streep as Lindy Chamberlain. Her husband Michael Chamberlain fought for her exoneration. Lindy was apparently prosecuted because she was a member of the Modern Adventists, an unpopular religious group. She was compensated $1.3 million (AUS) for four years of wrongful imprisonment."
