"Ray Krone was wrongly convicted of a Phoenix, Arizona murder in 1992, and he was sentenced to death. After his conviction was overturned he was again convicted after a retrial, and he was sentenced to life in prison. Krone was exonerated in 2002 by DNA tests of crime scene evidence that him as the assailant. Krone was awarded $1.4 million in compensation in April 2005 by the State of Arizona, and an additional $3 million in compensation in September 2005 by the City of Phoenix, for a total of $4.4 million. Krone's parents mortgaged their home and spent $300,000 trying to exonerate their son." |
