Summary |
"1970 book about the 1967 conviction of Charles Richardson for the murder of his seven children. He was sentenced to death, but his death sentence was commutted to life in prison in 1972 after the US Sup. Ct.'s Furman v Georgia decision ruled the way the death penalty was applied in the US was unconstitutional. Lane discovered information that the children's babysitter actually poisoned the children. In the late 1980s, almost two decades after this book was published, Lane obtained access to the prosecutors files that substantiated his earlier investigation. Dade County prosecutor Janet Reno agreed to the dismissing of the charges against Richardson in 1989, and he was released after 22 years of wrongful imprisonment. Richardson was awarded $150,000 in compensation by DeSoto County." |
