Summary of Case:

"Vincent Lawrence Agius was wrongly convicted in June 2015 of assault with intent to steal with threats of actual violence, for demanding opiate-based drugs by silently slipping a piece of torn cardboard inscribed with a note to a pharmacist in a pharmacy at the Noosa Fair Shopping Centre in Noosa Heads, Queensland, Australia on May 21, 2013. After his trial Agius was sentenced to 18 months in jail with a minimum of 9 months. Agius appealed. On December 18, 2015 the Queensland Court of Appeal unanimously quashed Agius' conviction and ordered his acquittal. The Court ruled his conviction was unreasonable and the evidence did not support it because he did not apply any force, because handing over the note was a means of communicating a demand, but no force was threatened.
