"U.S. District Court Judge Robert Peter Aguilar was wrongly convicted in 1990 of making false statements to FBI agents regarding potential grand jury witnesses in violation of 18 U. S. C. § 1503. Aguilar was sentenced to 6 months in prison, 1,000 hours community service and payment of a $2,000 fine. Aguilar was allowed to remain free pendng the outcome of his appeal. On April 20, 1994 the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Aguilar's conviction on the basis his conduct didn't violate the federal law he was charged with violating. The Ninth Circuit's ruling was affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1995 in U.S. v. Aguilar, 515 U.S. 593." |
