Summary of Case:	"Kanagasooriyan Alaguthurai was wrongly convicted on July 10, 2014 of possessing the explosive substance RDX in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. Alaguthurai was arrested on June 29, 2008 when he went through a security checkpoint with several other members of the public. Alaguthurai denied the explosives were his. The prosecution's case was based on evidence provided by the evidence of Army personnel, Police officers and Deputy Government Analysts. After his conviction in the High Court of Trincomalee, he was sentenced to life in prison. Alaguthurai appealed. He argued the explosives alleged to have been recovered from him was not properly produced and forwarded to the Government Analysts. He also argued the prosecution failed to present to the trial court witnesses or evidence to prove the integrity of the chain of custody of the alleged explosives. In light of Alaguthurai's arguments, Sri Lanka's Attorney General withdrew its opposition to his appeal. On May 29, 2019 Sri Landa's Court of Appeal set aside Alaguthurai's conviction and sentence, acquitted him, and ordered his release."
