Violet Amirault died of stomach cancer on September 12, 1997. On June 12, 1998 the charges were posthumously dismissed against Violet Amirault by Judge Isaac Borenstein who ruled, "serious, overwhelming errors" occurred during her trial that rendered the children's testimony forever unreliable. The State did not appeal the dismissal."
