"Riolordo Appling was wrongly convicted in 2012 of assault in Los Angeles, California. The charges against Appling were dismissed in 2013. On December 3, 2013 Appling filed a federal civil rights lawsuit that named the City of Los Angeles as the primary defendant. On May 8, 2015 U.S. District Court Judge John A. Kronstadt granted summary judgment to all the defendants, and awarded them costs against Appling. Appling appealed Judge Kronstadt's ruling to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and that appeal was pending as of June 30, 2016."
