Summary of Case:

"Edmond Arapi was wrongly convicted in absentia in 2006 of murder in Genoa, Italy. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison. He was arrested at Gatwick airport in 2009 when he returned from a family holiday in Fier, Albania. It was the first he knew of his conviction, and he was able to produce evidence that at the time of the murder he was at his job in a cafe in Staffordshire where he worked. His conviction was overturned, and in July 2012 he was awarded £18,000 by the appeal court in Genoa to compensate him for his time in jail and the distress caused to him and his family."
