Summary of Case:

"Ronald Arowcavage was wrongly convicted in 2015 of one count of criminal transportation of drug proceeds. Arowcavage's prosecution was based on his arrest on Interstate 70 in Geary County, Kansas, after an officer found $266,268 in cash within vacuum-sealed packages and a duffle bag. The cash had a strong odor of marijuana. Arowcavage told the officer he was driving from Pennsylvania back to his home in Sonoma County, California. Arowcavage pled guilty and was sentenced to 8 years in prison. Arowcavage appealed. On November 10, 2016 the Kansas Court of Appeals reversed Arowcavage's conviction on the basis the prosecution's complaint alleged he was transporting the proceeds of illegal drug activity in Kansas, and the prosecution failed to introduce any evidence that he committed any drug crime in Kansas."
