Summary of Case:

"Nadeem Aslam was wrongly convicted on December 20, 2010 of raping his wife on multiple occasions between 2007 and 2009. Aslam's conviction was based on the testimony of his wife, while Aslam testified that their sexual relations were consensual, and during that period of time his wife often initiated sex relations, including oral sex. After Aslam's conviction by a jury he was sentenced to 9 years in prison, which was increased to 13 years on March 22, 2011 at the request of the Attorney General's Office. Aslam appeal included new evidence that his wife admitted to at least two witnesses that she fabricated the rape accusations because Aslam threatened to divorce. her. On July 3, 2014 England and Wales Criminal Court of Appeal quashed Aslam's convictions (16 counts of rape) based on the new evidence that undermined the credibility of his then wife's testimony, without which there was no credible evidence any crime had been committed..
