"Wrongly convicted of raping a jogger in 1985. The victim erroneously picked him out of a photo line-up and then out of a live line-up. Avery was the only man in both line-ups. Released on Sept 11, 2003 after DNA testing excluded him as the attacker. The same judge that had presided over his trial and sentenced him to 32 years in prison ordered him released. Wrongly imprisoned for 18 years. In February 2006, settled lawsuit against Manitowoc County, Wisconsin for $400,000. Avery received $240,000 after payment to his lawyer. " |
