Summary of Case:	"Papiki Babuile was wrongly convicted in 2014 of murder and conspiracy in the murder of David Chika in Mangaung, South Africa in December 2012. Babuile's defense was he was not at the scene of the murder and had nothing to do with it. Babuile was one of nine people convicted in Chika's murder, all of whom were sentenced on November 26, 2014 to concurrent terms of 12 years in prison for murder and eight years for conspriacy to commit murder. Babuile appealed. On February 24, 2017 South Africa's High Court in Johannesburg acquitted Babuile on the basis the prosecution failed to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Babuile was the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) North West secretary, and after his acquittal the EFF issued a statement that the Court's judgment was welcomed with “sore hearts” because Babuile lost two years behind bars due to a wrong conviction: “Wrongful judgments deny our people many years of their lives and destroy their livelihoods.”"
