Summary of Case:	"Louise Bai was wrongly convicted in November 2013 of unauthorised use of a firearm related to the shooting of her boyfriend in the shoulder on February 20, 2013 in the bathroom of her home in McKellar, a suburb of Australia's capital of Canberra. She was convicted after a bench (judge only) trial, and the judge sentenced her to 4 months in prison with two months suspended. She was ordered ot immediately begin serving ehr sentence. Bai appealed, and after about a month of incarceration the Court of Appeals quashed her conviction on December 18, 2013 on the basis the judge had improperly considered inadmissible evidence, without which, there was insufficient evidence to support her conviction. Bai was released immediately, and she was expected to depart for the U.S. where family members lived."
