Summary of Case:

"Ben Baker and Clarissa Glenn were husband and wife, and codefendants wrongly convicted in 2006 of drug charges in Chicago, Illinois. After their pleas of guilty, Glenn was sentenced to probation and Baker was sentenced to 2 years in prison, which was added to his 12 year sentence in another drug case in which he had been convicted by a jury. On March 23, 2016 the Cook County State's Attorney's motion to dismiss the charges against Baker and Glenn was granted, based on evidence that the arrest officer, Chicago Police sergeant Ronald Watts, had planted the drugs on them as retaliation for their refusal to pay him money. On January 14, 2016 Baker's other drug conviction had been dismissed based on new evidence the arresting officers had fabricated the charges against Baker because he refused to pay them $1,000. Baker and Glenn filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in September 2016 that named the City of Chicago and Chicago PD officers involved in their case. As of April 2017 that lawsuit was pending."
