Summary of Case:

"Tameeka Baker was wrongly convicted in July 2017 of selling drugs in New York County, New York on June 15, 2017. Baker's prosecution was based on evidence by undercover police Detective Joseph Franco that he saw Baker sell drugs to someone in the entrance to a building. Baker pled guilty and was sentenced to 4 years in prison. A post-conviction investigation of Baker's case was launched by the New York County District Attorney’s Office when no drug deal was shown by surveillance video in the building where Franco said the sale took place. A motion to dismiss the charges was filed by the DA's Office after an investigation by the New York County District Attorney’s Conviction Integrity Unit determined there was insufficient evidence to support her guilty plea. The charges were dismissed on November 18, 2018. Franco was indicted in April 2019 on multiple state charges that included perjury and misconduct in the cases of Baker, Turrell Irving, and Julio Irizzarry."
