"Bennett Barbour was wrongly convicted in 1978 of the February 7, 1978 rape of a 19-year-old student at William and Mary college in Williamsburg, Virginia. His conviction was based on the eyewitness identification of the victim. Barbour was sentenced to 10 years in prison and was paroled after serving 4-1/2 years. In 2010 DNA testing excluded Barbour as the woman's assailant, and on May 24, 2012 the Supreme Court of Virginia issued a writ of actual innocence."
