"T. Boevy Barrett was wrongly convicted in Jamaica's Gold Coast in 1921 and sentenced to three years in prison. In August 1929 he was granted a Free Pardon and in September 1929 Britain's Colonial Office paid him £2,000 as the first installment of compensation. Prior to Barrett's Free Pardon England's Privy Council had declined to overturn his conviction."
