"Paul Bastidas was wrongly convicted in 1998 of selling narcotics after Los Angeles Police Department officers said they saw him throw away two bags of marijuana. He served 30 months in prison, but it was later discovered during the LAPD Rampart Scandal that the drugs had been planted on him by the officers. Paul Bastidas' conviction was vacated. On September 13, 2006, the Los Angeles City Council agreed to settle Bastidas' civil rights lawsuit against the city for $810,000. Bastidas was wrongly imprisoned for 2-1/2 years." |
