Summary of Case:

"Barbara J. Baum was convicted in June 1988 of engaging in sodomy, which was illegal in the Marine Corps. Baum was sentenced to one year in prison and a dishonorable discharge. On February 18, 1990, Baum's conviction was overturned by a military appeals court on the basis of bias by two jurors, and the prosecution's key witness provided uncorroborated testimony -- which invalidated it as a matter of law under the military code of justice. Baum spent 226 days in the brig in 1988 before her sentence was commutted to time served. That was prior to her conviction being overturned."
