Summary of Case:

"Ronnie Baylor was wrongly convicted on November 30, 1987 of the December 1986 rape of a women in her hotel room in Twentynine Palms, California. He was also wrongly convicted during the same trial of the rape of a different women in January 1987 in her hotel room in Twentynine Palms, Although neither victim testified, and no physical or forensic confession was presented during his trial , the prosecution relied on Baylor's confession -- that he recanted as coerced. He was also convicted by the Riverside County jury of burglary, robbery, theft and illegal use of a firearm. Baylor was sentenced to 16 years in prison. After his convictions were affirmed on direct appeal, baylor filed a post-conviction petition claiming ineffective assistance of counsel for failing to investigate a lab report that Baylor's blood type didn't match that of either women's assailant. In 1995 a federal judge granted Baylor's petition, and the federal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed that ruling. Baylor was released in 1995 after 9 years of imprisonment, and the charges were dismissed in September 1996."
