Summary of Case: |
"Alan Beaman wa wrongly convicted in April 1995 for the August 1993 strangulation murder of his ex-girlfriend in Normal, Illinois. Beaman was indicted for her murder in May 1994. There was no physical or forensic evidence linking Alan Beaman to the murder, and in convicting him the jury disregarded his alibi of being in Rockford, 140 north of the murder scene. Beaman was sentenced to 50 years in prison. Beaman filed a motion for a new trial based on the discovery the prosecution had failed to disclose there was another suspect who wasn't investigated. On May 22, 2008 the Illinois State Supreme Court reversed Beaman's conviction and he was released on a $25,000 bond on June 26, 2008. On January 29, 2009 the indictment was dismissed against Beaman. He was wrongly incarcerated for 14 years." |
