Summary of Case:	"William Bewley was convicted in 2010 of illegally possessing a firearm. Bewley has been an escaped prisoner since 2001 when he was arrested in Snaresbrook, England in 2010. A starting pistol was found in Bewley's flat, and he was charged with illegally possessing a firearm. Bewley pled guilty and he was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. He later filed an appeal based on his argument a starting pistol wasn't a firearm under the law. In July 2012 England's Court of Appeal quashed Bewley's conviction on the basis that while the starting pistol could have constituted a “imitation firearm”, it was not a prohibited weapon. At the same time the Court cut his sentence for escaping from prison from 2 years to 18 months, which made him eligible for parole."
