Summary of Case:

"Nian Bin was wrongly convicted four times of murder in the poisoning deaths of children in eastern China. Bin's conviction was based on his confession that he retracted as coerced by police torture. Bin was sentenced to death. He was acquitted by the Fujian High People's Court and released on August 22, 2014. Nian Bin, with his family members and attorneys, applied for compensation of more than 15 million yuan ($2.4 million) on Dec 25, 2014. On February 17, 2015 the Intermediate People's Court of Fuzhou City announced its decision to award Bin compensation of 1.139 million yuan (US$182,100) -- 589,000 yuan for loss of personal freedom and another 550,000 yuan for mental suffering."
