Summary of Case:

"A nighclub bouncer was convicted in 2016 of two counts of discrimination on the basis of ethnicity against a Russian, and a Somali for refusing in separate incidents to allow them to enter the Amarillo nightclub in October 2013 in the Milliklubi area of Helsinki, Finland. The bouncer's prosecution was based on undercover video filmed for a documentary about discrimination by Yle. The bouncer was convicted of both counts following a bench trial in the district court. He was sentenced to 50 days in jail for each count, pay a fine, and pay the two "victims" 400 euros compensation each, The bouncer appealed. On January 26, 2018 an appeals court set aside the two convictions and ordered dismissal of the charges based on the trial court's lack of jurisdiction. The appeals court ruled that the statute of limitations to bring the charges was two years, and they hadn't been indicted until two years and one month after the alleged incidents. Any fines and compensation paid by the bouncer was ordered returned. The appeals court affirmed the bouncer's conviction in a separate case that involved a Romanian man."
