Summary of Case:

"William Leigh Brady was wrongly convicted on February 4, 2016 of marijuana trafficking in Nova Scotia, Canada. The prosecution of William Brady was based on his association with a man who was found with two suitcases found in the trunk of the man's car that contained marijuana. Although there was no direct link between Brady and the marijuana and he denied knowledge of it, he was charged with four counts of marijuna possession and trafficking. The jury found Brady not guilty of two counts, and the prosecution suggested staying his conviction of possessing marijuna -- of which no evidence had been presented at trial -- which only left Brady's conviction of one count of marijuna trafficking. Brady was sentenced to an 18 month conditional prison sentence. Brady appealed. On May 25, the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal set aside Brady's conviction and ordered his acquittal on the basis the jury's guilty verdict was inconsistent with his acquittal of two counts that were based on the same facts."
