Summary of Case:

"Patrick Brennan was wrongly convicted on December 18, 1882 of perjury in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. At the time of Brennan's perjury he was intoxicated. Brennan was convicted in the Norfolk County Superior Court, and sentenced to three years imprisonment. After Brennan's conviction the Norfolk County District Attorney reviewed all the circumstances of Brennan's case and determined that he couldn't have had the intent to commit perjury because of his intoxicated state. With Brennan's promise to abstain forever from the sale or use of intoxicating liquors, the DA recommended Brennan's pardon. On May 15, 1884 Patrick Brennan was granted a full pardon by Massachusetts Governor George D. Robinson based on the new evidence he had lacked criminal intent to commit perjury."
