Summary of Case:

"Domonte O. Briggs was wrongly convicted of criminally negligent homicide in the death of a trucker after a crash on Interstate 81 in July 2009. Briggs' tractor trailer hit the other truck. On November 8, 2010, the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals overturned the conviction and ordered the charges dismissed due to insufficient evidence Domonte O. Briggs committed a crime. The Court ruled the state failed to show that Briggs' actions constituted "a gross deviation from the standard of care that an ordinary person would exercise," or that "death or injury was likely or foreseeable from his actions.""
