Summary of Case:

"Dominique Brim was wongly convicted of shoplifiting $1,300 worth of clothes from a Sears store on April 15, 2002, and severely biting the security guard who caught the thief. Brim was 15 years old so the case was filed in juvenile court. The store security guard positively identified Brim as the thief and his assailant. After her conviction, she could have been sentenced to remain in custody until she turned 21. However, prior to her sentencing, a store surveillance tape proved that Brim wasn't the thief - who gave them Brim's name and address before being released. In 2004 Brim reached an undisclosed settlement with Sears. On August 4, 2005 Brim filed a lawsuit against the City of Lincoln Park, MI and four police officers involved in the arrest and release of the actual theif who was released into the custody of her mother without being booked. Somewhat inexplicably, that woman was 25 at the time, yet was able to pass herself off to the police as being 15 years old."
