Summary of Case:

"Samuel Brownridge was wrongly convicted in 1995 of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Darryle Adams on March 7, 1994 in Queens County, New York. Brownridge's prosecution was based on testimony by two eyewitnesses. After his conviction by a jury Brownridge was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. A post-conviction investigation discovered the prosecution had not disclosed to his lawyer that three men told police they were present when Adams was shot and they identified Garfield Brown as the murderer. Brown closely resembled an eyewitness description of the shooter. Evidence was also found undermining the credibility of the two prosecution witnesses' testimony. Brownridge filed a petition for a new trial based on the new evidence, and he was released on bail in 2019. On June 23, 2020 Brownridges petition for a new trial was orally granted and the charges were dismissed with the agreement of the Queens County DA's Office. The written ruling was issued dated June 24, 2020."
