Summary of Case:	"Shilinde Bulaya was wrongly convicted of raping a five-year-old deaf and dumb girl on September 11, 2003 in the Meatu District of the Shinyanga Region of Tanzania. Bulaya's conviction on May 25, 2004 was based on the uncorroborated testimony of the girl's sister. Bulaya was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Bulaya's conviction and sentence were affirmed by the High Court on March 3, 2010. In October 2013 Tanzania's Court of Appeal quashed Bulaya's conviction on the basis of insufficient evidence because the girl's sister's testimony wasn't corroborated by any other evidence and their was no evidence of sexual intercourse, which was a required element of rape. Bulaya was released after more than nine years imprisonment."
