Summary of Case:

"Lawrence Butler was wrongly convicted in December 2009 of murdering Trevor Tascas in Victoria, Australia. Although Tascas' body was not found and there was no evidence he was deceased, the prosecution alleged he was killed in October 2005. The jury convicted Butler of murder and he was sentenced to 23 years in prison. After Butler's conviction was quashed on appeal in January 2012 he was released after 26 months in custody. Butler was retried, but for manslaughter, not murder. In September 2013 the jury acquitted Butler after his retrial."
