Summary of Case:

"Belinda Mary Campbell was wrongly convicted in August 2007 of importing from Indonesia two million Sudafed and Actifed cold and flu tablets that contained a commercial quantity of pseudoephedrine. The tablets were in boxes in a container of goods delivered to Belinda Campbell's furniture store in Sydney -- Chic Teak. An Indonesian handled orders for the store and he had ordered items for his personal use or sale on previous occasions. The surveillance tapes showed that Campbell did not open any of the boxes of tablets in the container, and their was no record she ordered the tablets. However, she was charged with the Customs violation of illegally importing a commercial quantity of pseudoephedrine tablets. She was convicted and in November 2007 sentenced to 2-1/2 years in prison. On appeal she pressed her claim that she did not know the tablets were in the container. In September 2008 the South Wales Court of Criminal Appeals quashed her conviction in the basis that the act of importation had ended by the time she first saw the container."
