Wrongly convicted or murdering an 80 year old woman that was believed to have named him as her heir in her will. The woman's housekeeper testified she saw Cauvin murder the woman. He was convicted and sentenced to life deportation (presumably to Devil's Island?). Two years later the housekeeper confessed to a priest she had made up the entire story. Cauvin was acquitted after a retrial and released.
