After a reinvestigation of Chatman's case by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Conviction Integrity Unit, the State's Attorney's Office filed a motion to vacate his conviction, and after it was granted on September 10, 2013 their motion to dismiss the charges was granted. After Carl Chatman was granted a certificate of innocence on November 19, 2013 he filed a claim for compensation from the State of Illinois that was granted, and he was awarded $185,000 in 2014."
