Summary of Case: |
"Leung Chi-hang was wrongly convicted in 2015 of disrupting public order during a street protest in October 2014 in Hong Kong. Chi-hang's mistaken identity defense was that he was merely a spectator, and that a girl came from behind and pushed a barricade and he was misidentified as the culprit. During his trial two police officers testified Chi-hang was the perpetrator. The trial judge ruled the police officers were credible witnesses and found Chi-hang guilty. Chi-hang appealed. On July 23, 2015 Chi-hang's conviction was overturned on appealed based on the new video evidence of a Cable TV news clip of the incident that showed no sign Leung moved the barricade, although his hands were on it." |
