Summary of Case:

"Michael Clancy was wrongly convicted of the 1997 of a drug dealer in a Bronx, New York pizza parlor. Clancy lived in the neighborhood of the shooting, and he was arrested a week after the murder based on his identification by two eyewitness in the pizza parlor. Clancy's conviction by a jury was based on those witnesses in-court identification of him. Clancy was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. After a new witness came forward naming the actual shooter and that Clancy was not in the pizza parlor, Clancy filed a motion for a new trial. On April 2, 2008 Clancy was released on a $50,000 bond when Bronx Supreme Court Justice Denis Boyle found the witnesses new evidence credible and in a 45-page decision vacated Clancy's conviction. The charges were dismissed on February 23, 2009 after the Bronx District Attorney declined to retry Clancy. Clancy was wrongly imprisoned for almost 11 years. Less than a week after Clancy's conviction was overturned, Andrew DeJesus was arrested and charged with the murder based on the new witnesses evidence, along with another witness who came forward identifying that DeJesus was the actual shooter. On September 26, 2012 Clancy was paid $2 million by the State of New York to settle his wrongful imprisonment claim."
