"Robert Clark Jr. was wrongly convicted in 1982 of the rape, robbery and kidnapping of a woman in East Atlanta, Georgia on July 30, 1981. The jury relied on the victim's eyewitness identification to convict Clark. He was sentenced to life in prison. Robert Clark was exonerated in 2005 when DNA testing on crime scene evidence excluded him as the assalant. Robert Clark was released on December 8, after 24 years of wrongful imprisonment. In March 2007 Georgia's legislature approved a payment of $1.2 million to Clark. In April the Georgia Senate approved the payment. In May 2007 Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue signed the bill."
