"Robert Coleman was wrongly convicted after he reported the murder of his wife and was then arrested as the prime suspect. Coleman was convicted on circumstantial evidence by a jury, and he was sentenced to life in prison. The actual killer confessed while in prison for another crime. Based on that new evidence of his innocence Coleman was granted an unconditional pardon by Georgia's governor on April 14, 1933, and the Georgia legislature appropriated him $25,000 in compensation on March 27, 1941 for his four years of wrongful imprisonment."
