Summary of Case:

"Rosalynd Collier-Hammond was wrongly convicted on April 2, 1999 of two counts of raping her daughter when she was four years-old in Cleveland, Ohio. Her prosecution was based on her daughter's testimony. After her conviction by the jury Rosalynd Hammond was sentenced to life imprisonment. In 2014 her then 31-year-old daughter recanted, claiming she had been pressured to lie by her father. Based on the new recantation evidence Hammond filed a post-conviction to vacate her conviction and to be awarded a new trial. After an evidentiary hearing was held, on November 3, 2015 Judge Robert McClelland granted her petition, and ten days later ordered her release from prison on bond pending her retrial. The Cuyahoga County District Attorney's Office elected not to retry Collier-Hammond -- since their case had been based on her daughter's now recanted testimony -- and on April 17, 2017 their motion to dismiss the charges against her was granted. On January 28, 2019 Hammond filed a claim for compensation under Ohio's wrongful imprisonment statute."
