Summary of Case:

"Hosni Mubarak, Habib El-Adly, Security Commander 1, Security Commander 2, Security Commander 3, Security Commander 4, Security Commander 5, Security Commander 6 were co-defendants wrongly convicted in 2012 of murder and conspiracy in the death of protesters who were killed during the 2011 uprising that ended Mubarak's 30 year rule of Egypt. They were all acquitted by an appeals court in November 2014. On June 4, 2015 Egypts highest court, the Court of Cassation, upheld the acquittal of all the codefendants, except for Mubarak. The Court ordered his retrial. On March 2, 2017 Mubarak was acquitted by the Court of Cassation after a hearing presided over by Judge Ahmed Abdel Qawi, who stated: "The Court has found the defendant innocent." The Court of Cassation also denied demands to reopen civil suits regarding the treatment of protesters, thus closing the civil cases and Mubarak's criminal case."
