Robert Carroll Coney was wrongly convicted of robbing a Safeway store in Texas in 1962. Coney was coerced to falsely confess by police who tortured him by crushing his fingers. Coney served a total of 40 years in prison before his conviction was vacated in August 2004. After more than four decades his fingers were still deformed.
