Summary of Case: |
"Gregory A. Conigliaro and Sharon P. Carter were codefendants wrongly convicted in December 2018 of conspiracy to commit fraud related to a deadly 2012 fungal meningitis outbreak that ultimately resulted in the deaths of more than 100 people in more than 20 states. Conigliaro was president and part owner of the pharmaceutical company New England Compounding Company. Carter was an employee of NECC. On December 16, 2014 Conigliaro and Carter were among several people charged in U.S. District Court in Boston. After their convictions but prior to their sentencing, Carter and Conigliaro filed a motion to set-aside the jury's verdict based on insufficient evidence to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. On June 7, 2019 U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns granted the motions by Conigliaro and Carter for a judgment of acquittal and ordered their discharge." |
