Summary of Case:

"Caramad Conley was wrongly convicted in 1994 for a double homicide in San Francisco in 1989. Conley was jailed in 1992. The key evidence against Conley was the testimony of police informant Clifford Polk. Polk testified he didn't receive any thing in exchange for his testimony. Conley was sentenced to two terms of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Conley filed a motion for a new trial after a post-conviction investigation discovered that the prosecution failed to disclose that Polk had received thousands of dollars and the use of a house in exchange for his testimony and the prosecutors knew that when he testified and they did nothing to correct his perjurious testimony. In December 2010 Conley's conviction was overturned, and he was released on January 12, 2011 after 18 years of wrongful incarceration. The San Francisco District Attorney's Office announced they would not retry Conley. Polk is now dead. In July 2014 San Francision City Attorney Dennis Herrera approved a settlement of of Conley's lawsuit against the city for $3.5 million. The settlement agreement had to be approved by the Board of Supervisors during its July 2014 hearing."
